Most Commonly Question Asked

How does VMOU distance learning system work for students?
VMOU follows a distance learning system where students study at home using books and online material. VMOU also provides weekend classes and support through study centres, helping students manage studies along with jobs or other responsibilities easily.
Is a VMOU distance degree valid for studying abroad?
Yes, VMOU is fully recognized by the UGC and AIU. Its degrees are generally accepted by international universities for master's programs and by foreign credential evaluation agencies like WES, provided you meet the specific country's academic requirements.

VMOU Admission 2026

VMOU admission 2026 for the January session has been closed, but the July session admission will begin soon for all the UG and PG courses. Its admission process is completely online through its official website (online.vmou.ac.in). The university has two main admission sessions every year.

  • January session: usually starts in early January and continues till March.
  • July session: generally runs from early July to September.

Students can take VMOU admissions in two ways, depending on the course they choose. Most regular undergraduate and postgraduate courses like BA, BCom, BSc, MA, MCom, and certificate programs offer direct admission without any entrance exam. For UG courses, students must have passed 10+2 from a recognised board. For PG courses, a relevant bachelor’s degree is required.

However, some professional courses require an entrance exam score taken by the university. These include MBA, MCA, PhD, and B.Ed programs. The distance B.Ed course has stricter rules. Students must have a graduation or post-graduation with at least 50% marks. They also need teaching experience or training approved by NCTE.

VMOU also provides some fee benefits to make education more affordable. Female students from Rajasthan can get full tuition fee support under the Balika Doorasth Shiksha Yojana. Also, if students choose digital study material (PDF) instead of printed books, they get a 15% discount on course fees during admission.

VMOU Examination System 2026

VMOU conducts its academic assessments primarily through Term End Examinations (TEE). Because the university has two admission sessions (January and July), VMOU exams are also held twice a year. Here is a breakdown of how the examination system works:

  • Schedule: Term-end exams are typically held every year in June and December.
  • Shifts: Exams are usually conducted in two shifts: Morning (9:00 AM – 12:00 PM) and Evening (2:00 PM – 5:00 PM).

Core Components of Evaluation

Depending on your specific course, your final grade is determined by a combination of the following:

  • Theory Papers: Standard written exams taken at designated test centers across Rajasthan and other cities.
  • VMOU Internal Assignments: Mandatory assignments that must be submitted (either online or to your Regional Centre) before the theory exams begin.
  • Practical Camps & Exams: For lab-heavy or technical subjects like BSc, BCA, or Geography, VMOU holds mandatory practical counseling camps at Regional Centres. You must attend these camps to be eligible to sit for the practical exam.

Passing Criteria

  • For the majority of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs, you must score a minimum of 36% marks independently in both your theory papers and internal assignments to pass.

Admit Cards (Permission Letters)

  • Admit cards are usually released on the official website a week or two before the exams start.
  • You can download your "Permission Letter" directly from the Student One View portal or the main website using your Scholar Number.
  • You must carry a printed copy of the admit card and a valid Government ID proof to the examination hall.

VMOU Defaulter Exams (For Missed or Failed Papers)

  • If you fail a paper, are absent on exam day, or forget to submit an internal assignment, you are categorized as a "Defaulter" for that specific paper.
  • VMOU provides a safety net: by filling out an online Defaulter Form and paying a nominal fee, you can sit for that pending paper in the very next exam cycle (e.g., clearing a missed June paper in the December cycle).

Re-evaluation and Re-totalling

  • VMOU Re-evaluation: If you are unsatisfied with your theory marks, you can apply for re-evaluation within 15 days of your result being declared.
  • Re-totalling: Allowed within 30 days of your result declaration.

Note: You can only request re-evaluation or re-totalling for theory papers. It is strictly not permitted for practicals, internal assignments, project reports, or viva-voce.

VMOU Result 2025

VMOU result status for the 2025 academic year depends on your exam session. VMOU TEE results were announced step by step between October and December 2025. If you appeared in the June 2025 session, the university has already released all Term End Examination (TEE) results for undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and certificate courses. Students can now download their final VMOU marksheets.

On the other hand, the results for the December 2025 session are still not out yet. Since these VMOU exams were held in January and February 2026, the checking process is still going on. The university is likely to start releasing these VMOU Kota results from April and May 2026, usually starting with smaller courses and then moving to larger programs like BA and BSc.

How to Check Your VMOU 2025 Result?

Once your result is officially released, VMOU does not send marksheets directly to your email. You must download the provisional marksheet yourself using these steps:

  • Visit the Portal: Go directly to the official results page: online.vmou.ac.in/results.aspx
  • Find Your Course: Look for your specific program code (e.g., BA-I, MSCMT-P) and the "Date of Declaration" in the live table.
  • Click for Details: Click the "Click Here for Detailed Results" link at the top or bottom of the page.
  • Enter Credentials: Enter your Scholar Number. If you do not remember your scholar number, there is an option to search your result using your Name and Date of Birth.
  • Download: Submit the details to view your subject-wise marks, grades, and overall Pass/Fail status. Save the PDF for your records.

Important Post-Result Rules

  • Passing Marks: You must secure a minimum of 36% in both your theory exams and practicals/assignments to pass a subject at VMOU.
  • Re-evaluation: If you are unsatisfied with your score, you can apply for a copy re-evaluation online. The window strictly closes 15 days after the date your specific result was declared.
  • Defaulter Exam (Backlog): If you receive an "NC" (Not Cleared) status on your result, you will need to fill out a "Defaulter Form" and pay a nominal fee (approx. INR 200-300 per paper) to reappear for that specific exam in the next cycle.

VMOU Promotion Rules: The "Promotee" System

VMOU follows a highly flexible promotion policy standard among open and distance learning institutions. At VMOU, moving to the next academic year is commonly referred to as Promotee Admission. Here is how the promotion rules work:

Automatic Promotion (No "Pass" Required)

Unlike traditional universities, you do not need to pass all (or even any) of your current year/semester exams to be promoted to the next year. You are eligible to take admission in the 2nd or 3rd year even if your previous year's results are still pending, if you missed the exams, or if you failed certain papers.

Filing the Promotee Form

Promotion is not automatic in the sense that you don't have to do anything; you still must officially enroll for the next year.

  • To move to the next academic year, you must fill out the VMOU Promotee Form (often listed as the Second/Third Year Admission Form on the portal).
  • You must pay the full tuition fee for the upcoming year during the official admission cycles (either the January or July session).
  • Important Note: You must fill out this form before the university's deadline for that session, regardless of whether your previous exams have taken place or your results have been declared. Do not wait for your previous results to apply for the next year.

Clearing Backlogs (The Defaulter System)

Because you are promoted without passing, any papers you failed, missed, or didn't submit assignments for are carried forward as backlogs.

  • You can clear these pending papers in any subsequent Term-End Examination (TEE) cycle (held in June and December).
  • To take the exam for a backlog paper, you simply fill out a Defaulter Form through your Student One View dashboard and pay a nominal per-paper fee before the next exam cycle begins.

The Maximum Duration Constraint

While you can freely move to the next year and carry backlogs, there is a hard deadline for graduating. You must clear all your papers across all years within the Maximum Course Duration set for your specific program.

  • For example, a standard 3-year Bachelor's degree (like BA, BCom, or BSc) typically has a maximum completion window of 72 months (6 years).
  • If you do not clear all your first, second, and third-year papers within this total maximum timeframe, your enrollment will lapse, and you will not receive your degree.

Some highlights of the VMOU campus are listed below:

  • Central Library: The library is in a unique round-shaped building spread over 2,036 square meters and is the academic center of the campus.

    • The library uses SOUL 2.0 software and also has a special collection related to Mahatma Gandhi.

How many regional centres does VMOU have in Rajasthan?
VMOU operates seven regional centres strategically located across Rajasthan to assist distance learners. These are situated in Ajmer, Bikaner, Bharatpur, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, and Udaipur, acting as administrative hubs for offline grievance resolution and camp organization.

VMOU Study Centers

Underneath each of the 7 Regional Centers is a massive network of Study Centers. These are not independent VMOU buildings; rather, they are established, reputed local government or private colleges that VMOU has partnered with. When you fill out your online admission form, you will select the Study Center closest to your home.

  • Practical Lab Work: If you are a BSc, BCA, or MSc student, your mandatory practical lab sessions (handling chemicals, using microscopes, or coding) will take place at the labs of these local affiliated colleges.
  • Examination Centers: Your local study center (or a college very close to it) will typically serve as your designated center for your final Term-End Examinations (TEE).
  • Library Access: As a VMOU student, you are generally allowed to use the library facilities at your designated study center during specific hours.
